Program Details: Thin-Wall Turning, Piercing and Embellishment
Kathleen has admired work by Binh Pho, Joey Richardson, Richard Kennedy,
and Gordon Pembridge. When she retired in 2014, she took the plunge and
bought a micro motor and an air-driven dental drill. These will feature prominently
in her demo.
This session begins with a discussion of thin turning. To pierce, the wood must
be turned to a thickness of about 2 mm (3/32”). Although I usually turned dry,
she will discuss green turning with a short video.
She will show all the various tools used for piercing and embellishing. She will
also discuss her setup emphasizing workshop comfort and safety. Moving on,
Kathleen will discuss sources of design inspiration and layout technique.
New to this demo, she’s recently started airbrushing pieces. This has opened a
whole new way of thinking about design.

Please – to help out everyone who attends – WEAR YOUR CLUB NAMETAG!
Experienced turners will be on hand to help with sharpening, turning
techniques, and finishing suggestions. We can also talk through and demonstrate the
various tools and techniques for thin-wall turning
The session will begin at 9:00 a.m. and cleanup will start at about 12:30 p.m.
for a 1 p.m. end-of-session. Let's be courteous to our host!
